Brides’ hair…revisted

29Jun

Warning to any guy readers…this is a very girly post. Not that many of them aren’t…but just fair warnin’…

Again with the hair. I apologize in advance. But, being as the wedding is only a month away and my “test” hair appointment is this Saturday…I need to figure this out.

Up?

(by the way…um..love that dress. Where were you when I was shopping?)

Half-way up?

or down?

I have a hair piece but it works any way I do my hair. It is generally my style to have it down, flowy, bohemianish (aka frizzy). And I have loong hair (almost too long) like that gal up there. So having it down would probably be more “me”. However, this ain’t no ordinary gathering. It’s my wedding. It should be special, fancy…it’s my once-in-a-lifetime day of looking the most special…right? But the wedding isn’t really fancy. ‘Cause we’re not really fancy people. We own a Chevy Prism.

Well, now that I’ve just brain-dumped my thoughts onto you, I feel silly because I feel like I should be trying to solve some major problem in the world…not my hair style. :)

Consensus? There’s too much pressure on brides! World problem. Well, at least in the US. Brides, what did you do? Did you go with what you’re most comfortable with or did you go with something extra special?

Surprise card

15Jun

As someone who just completed her own wedding invitations, I’ve been a bit obsessed over others. I saw these on Style Me Pretty and it made me smile. I love stationery that allows you to discover and interact.

Plus, the color scheme ain’t too shabby either :)

My invitations, detailed

06Jun

A sneak peek! I wanted to show you all some detail of the outside section of my wedding invitations. Nothing too crazy yet as the full reveal will arrive eventually (I know, I’m being such a tease) and you’ll see it in all its letterpress glory, but this is fun too:

I wanted to play a lot with textures so I incorporated fabric and lace as well as letterpress (which you’ll see later). I also didn’t want to have to be a slave to colors with a “wedding color theme”  but I did stick to a sort of garden/nature theme with a violet color consistently throughout. More coming later!

A German touch

26May

I’ve been thinking of ways to incorporate my German heritage into our wedding, but I didn’t think our guests would want to dance to polka music for two hours.

Ashley Meaders makes beautiful event designs including this “yodel” photobooth set:

Kitchy, no? Might be a wee bit too much for representing my heritage, but it did make me laugh!

Speaking of photobooths, what do you think about them at a wedding?

A printing weekend

02May

The internet is back (yay!) although I hardly noticed this weekend because I was busy printing away at my own wedding invitations!

You can see my 8×12 C&P in action. It can move pretty quickly which I find a bit challenging. I’m trying to figure out a way where I can quickly put the paper on the platen and feel confident that it’s secure. Right now, I feel like I have to go very slowly to make sure it’s securely fastened to the pins.

However, this C&P is so much fun to use. It prints BEAUTIFULLY. The impression and surface area that it can reach is amazing. Much more than my Sigwalt tabletop.

So, you wanna another sneak peek of the invite? :)

Royal invitation

29Apr

In honor of the royal wedding today, I thought I’d share the “official wedding invitation”.
Unfortunately, you can’t really tell what the paper is like or if it’s letterpress printed or engraved or anything. It doesn’t seem like it. I believe the Queen Elizabeth crown is embossed though.

I’m a bit underwhelmed. Of course I didn’t expect any kind of “trendy” designs or anything, but I expected a bit more. Especially the lined area where, I’m assuming, a calligrapher wrote out the names? A bit odd. And cheesy. I expected it all to be calligraphy actually. I also would have liked a sort of modern, young touch because they are the “modern royal couple” now.

What do you guys think?

And what is a “morning coat”?

Wedding jewelry.

07Apr

Wedding jewelry. Thoughts?  I go back and forth. Sometimes I feel like no jewelry would best show off the dress and whatever natural beauty I have  like these gals…

Simple, rustic, natural… like our wedding will be with an outdoor reception. Then sometimes, I feel like some funky, colored jewelry/accessories would be fun and could show off my personality…

Or…do I go with something vintage with a classic beauty, timeless for years to come?

What to do? I can see myself doing all three. Married gals, what did you wear on your wedding day?
