Saw this and just made me smile. Not sure if I agree with every match-up (German shepherd as Helvetica?) but it is pretty funny and some are definitely a perfect match-up.

Not that this hasn’t been done before, but first of all, I just think that typographic package design is one of the most beautiful things, second, to letterpress print the design, is even better. Just want to show an example of its beauty.

{ Not sure who designed it — I found it via this blog here }

Gone are the days of manufacturing wood type, leaving us printers with worn, broken or missing pieces, scrambling at the leftovers. Except, maybe not.

There have been a few courageous souls who are starting to create NEW wood type!
Lead Graffiti has gone and done it — 12 line Bradley . Look how bright and shiny they are!
And, the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum with their new type, Lushootseed:

And check out Scott Polzon’s process of creating new wood type:

I would just love to get my hands on any wood type at this point though…All I have is a lonely “P“.
Happy weekend everyone!

Wow — I may have to make one of these myself with an old tray I’ve got laying around. I could even put some orphan type in there too.
I’m putting it on my list of things to make. It’s getting long.

Lately I’ve been wanting to learn calligraphy (put that on the list…). It’s a beautiful art and complements well with letterpress. ( Did you know that calligraphy means beauty in Greek? )
Since I don’t know how to do calligraphy, I’ve been trying to find fonts to give that effect and almost every single time, the fonts I love are by type designer, Alejandro Paul. If you need a beautiful, calligraphy-style look, check out his fonts!
For example, one of his fonts for my sister’s wedding invites:

My press is waiting patiently for me. But it’s waiting for my life to be less hectic at the moment (all good things which you’ll see soon…). It will have my full attention again!
P.S. Can anyone identify this type? I found it at an estate sale with no label.
