I’m looking for a rug in my studio because it’s just laminate squares over concrete (cold feet!) and just naturally started to look on Etsy. I veered my search a bit and looked into the vintage section and found some great rugs (but not for the studio…too nice for that. Ink, grease, ink, oil, ink, ink…).
I never would have thought to look on Etsy but there are a lot of great and reasonably priced oriental and kilim rugs. And a few kitschy ones if you’re into that. What I like about oriental/kilim rugs is that the older and more worn they are, the prettier. At least to me. And buying an antique or vintage rug also means…recycling! Yay!

I love styling with animals. I mean, it’s pretty obvious since I love animals anyway (what am I? 5?) but I do feel that designing and decorating with them create that touch of whimsy and movement in a space. I would love to have these vintage finds from Modish Vintage in my home right now:
C’mon, who has a brass rhino in their home? It’s seriously awesome.

Hey it’s my own little attempt of a before&after! We got this…”hutch”. Yes, I’ll say it. I never thought I’d ever buy something like this but it happened. But Kevin and I didn’t buy it for our dishes, we bought to be a display case. And it was $20 on craigslist. How can you say no to that? So with $20 and $10 worth of exotic, handmade paper from Paper Source, we did our own little DIY:
And ta-da! I took off the back panel (chipboard or something cheap) and spray mounted the paper and reinforced the seam in the middle with a gluestick. It is such a big space in the back that I did have to try and make the seam blend in. It’s hard to tell with my cheap-o camera but the flowers on the paper are actually metallic which is so fun. Then we filled it with our stuff and that was it! We will probably paint it in the future to take it to the next level of fabulous.
Next time I’ll try and do more step by step instructions with photos because there were a few tricks that may be useful for you all.

As Kevin and I are scouring the internet to furnish our new apartment (got a sofa! thank you craigslist), we’ve both become a little obsessed. My eye is on furniture 24/7. And we’re trying to recycle as much as we can by purchasing used pieces and going all Before&After like Design*Sponge. :) So this definitely caught my eye:
How clever! Converting suitcases into chairs. They’re designed and created by Katie Thompson. She has a lot of other up-cycled pieces as well but these chairs are super fun.

We’re getting close to Halloween; with the leaves falling, the crisp air and cloudy skies, I can’t help it but to get excited and watch those classically cheesy “horror” films from the 50′s and 60′s like “The Blob” or “The House of Wax” with Vincent Price. But the king of suspense is, of course, Alfred Hitchcock, who never fails in his sometimes ironic but always suspenseful films.
So that gave me the idea to gather up some “Hitchcock” goodies — perfect for this time of year (or any time if you’re a fan like me)
Reenact your favorite “Pyscho” scene with Blood Bath soap. Found on Chase Street Soap Co.’s Etsy site.
