Snowpocalypse

08Feb

That’s what it’s being called… in my area, we got around 25 inches! Pretty sizeable for around here. Washington DC is pretty shut down today so it looks like another snow day! Here are some photos from the weekend:

Tea for me please

05Feb

What could be better for the impending snowstorm this weekend than a hot cup of tea? These tea bags really are so gosh darn clever ( found via Toxel ) and are great gift ideas:

Dressy Dressy

04Feb

I have many weddings this summer (7!) to attend and I’m starting to look for some fun dresses to wear. Where do YOU like to shop for interesting, beautiful dresses? Anthropologie is a classic favorite but they don’t have their spring collection out yet.

This dress would be beautiful if it wasn’t… pink. Sorry, not a pink fan. But if it was a champagne/grey color, now you’re talking.

_6019366And this one from ModCloth would be so fun except I think black is too harsh for a summer wedding…

10873-1Also from ModCloth is this dress which is beautiful and could be a contender — I’d feel like a wave wearing it!

10611-1Hm… maybe I just need to be patient for the Spring collections … it’s slim pickings right now. :)

The Art of the Steal

03Feb

As someone who majored in art history and grew an hour away from the Barnes Foundation, this new documentary, The Art of the Steal, caught my attention. For those of you who don’t know, Barnes was pals with many french impressionist and post-impressionist artists including Matisse, Picasso, di Chirico and has one of the biggest private collections EVER of that type of that time period. There’s even a mural done by Matisse! His home is literally covered in paintings, drawings, etc. but can be toured and viewed by appointment and open to the public on a few days a week. I’ve visited it before a couple of times and it’s absolutely a magnificent collection of impressionist/post-impressionist work in one place.

His home is in a suburb outside of Philadelphia and in his will he specifically instructed not to have his home touched. Whatsoever. Under any circumstances. The way that he collected and displayed his art in his private home was important to him.

But now, now they’re moving his collection in a new facility in downtown Philly. Exactly against what he wanted and there’s a huuuuge uproar about it.

This film (which I cannot embed the trailer) is portraying this event as one of the biggest art heists in history.

You can watch it here.

My first invitation set

02Feb

My first wedding invitation done by letterpress — finally finished and I think overall successful! There are still some inking issues with my press that need to be worked out (even with my new rollers!)*

*I am still getting inconsistent inking even with my new rollers and new metal trucks. It’s almost in pattern where I’ll get no ink on one side of the plate and after awhile, I’ll get no ink on another portion of the plate and then it goes back to all inking all over.  Dented rollers would be an explanation if there wasn’t inking on one portion all the time. But it moves! Could it be the hooks/springs that hold my rollers? Any printers out there, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Early Spring

01Feb

Yes it’s only the first day of February, but February means the last month of winter so spring is right around the corner, right? right? :) Some sneak peeks of “early spring” from Stewart + Brown Organic Pioneers

40361_av140362_av1I love the slouchy pants with the sandals and cardigan…

Of course, Anthropologie has some “spring-y” looks as well like this lovely ensemble one with a summery top layered over a warm shirt:
